A man who survived being shot in the face during a Monday night invasion of his Markham home is recovering in Sunnybrook hospital, but is still in intensive care.

Family members told CTV Toronto on Thursday that Huei Hann Pan, 57, appears to be doing quite well, although his son and daughter didn't wish to speak on camera.

"(They’re) not in good condition, as you can see. (They’re) hurt," one family friend said.

The 24-year-old daughter was at home when the armed assailants burst in about 10 p.m. They used rope to tie her up, leaving her upstairs. The son is a student in Hamilton and was not in the home at the time.

While ransacking the house, the attackers shot and killed Bieh Ha Pan, 53.

Sources said Bieh may have been expecting a visit from nearby relatives that night and inadvertently opened the door to the three suspects.

York Regional Police have said the home invasion appears to be random. Huei worked as a tool-and-die maker. Neighbours describe the Pans as a nice, quiet family.

Forensic investigators continue to comb the family home at 238 Helen Ave. in Markham, near Kennedy Road and Highway 407, searching for evidence.

One major lead has turned out to be a dead end.

On Tuesday, police released some grainy security camera images showing a silver 2007Acura CSX in front of the Pan home.

After hearing news reports, the car's owner contacted police and was ruled out as a suspect.

York police have released descriptions of three suspects, asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 1-888-287-5025, ext. 7865. People can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or leave an online tip at www.1800222tips.com.

The first suspect is described as a male, black, between 28 and 33 years old. He is medium height and has a medium build, and was last seen with long dreadlocks and wearing dark clothing.

The second suspect is described as a 31-year-old black male of medium height, with a thin build. He was last seen with a bandana covering his face and wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt.

The third suspect is described as a thin male who spoke with a Caribbean accent.
