A man has been rushed to hospital after shots were fired outside of a nightclub at Polson Pier Saturday night.
People were seen fleeing the area of Cabana Poolbar/ Rebel Nightclub after multiple gunshots rang out in a parking lot outside the club shortly before 9 p.m.
Officers searched the area and located shell casings in the parking lot.
A short time later, officers located a male victim with critical injuries near Sherbourne and Adelaide streets, a short distance away from the scene of the shooting.
Officers performed CPR on the man before loading him into a police vehicle and rushing him to hospital.
Police later said the man’s injuries are no longer considered life-threatening.
Witnesses who were taking in the sunset in the area described a chaotic scene after the shots rang out.
“There were just a bunch of families sitting by the water, taking pictures and enjoying themselves,” one man told CP24. “Then all of a sudden you heard this ‘pop, pop, pop’ from the parking lot behind us.”
He said that at first, people thought that someone was setting off firecrackers.
“Then people started screaming from the parking lot and cars started backing into each other to get out. Everybody just laid flat on the ground right away and just waited,” he said.
In a statement, Ink Entertainment, which runs the venue, said neither Cabana Pool Bar nor Rebel Nightclub were open when the shooting occurred.
Citing the police investigation, the company said it didn’t want to comment further. However they added that “we are fully cooperating with the police, providing video footage and witness statements.”
Police are canvassing for witnesses and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the shooting to speak with investigators.
