SMITH-ENNISMORE-LAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ont. - An Alberta man is due in an Ontario court today to face charges stemming from a snowmobile chase involving police.

Provincial police say officers tried to stop a snowmobile carrying an adult and a child northwest of Peterborough, Ont., because neither was wearing a helmet.

Police say the snowmobile sped off and that speeds reached more than 100 kilometres per hour, with police in Saturday's pursuit.

The snowmobile stopped at a trailer at the Bailey's Bay Resort and the driver fled, leaving behind the five-year-old child who was not injured.

The driver was apprehended inside a trailer after a scuffle during which he was pepper sprayed.

Scott Milton McKenzie, 25, of Fort McMurray, Alta., is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, escape by flight, failing to stop for police, resisting arrest, driving while prohibited, driving a motorized snow vehicle without insurance and without a helmet.
