A 28-year-old man is facing five charges in connection with a sexual assault last month in Georgina, and several others that took place in Newmarket in 2015.

The most recent assault was around 9 p.m. on June 20, according to police, when a 39-year-old woman was followed by a man while walking on Atherton Crescent. A man, who was wearing a hooded sweater, came up from behind and grabbed the woman in a sexual manner, police said. The suspect took off the sweater as he ran away from the scene.

Georgina resident Scott Wasson was identified as a suspect by police and later arrested. After further investigation, officers accused the suspect of being involved in other sex assaults that took place near Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket between August and September in 2015.

Wasson was scheduled to appear in court on July 7.
