TORONTO -- A man accused of first-degree murder in the death of Anthony Smith will be in court twice this week.
Nisar Hashimi, 23, appeared briefly in court Tuesday and was remanded into custody until Thursday.
Smith was shot to death outside a downtown Toronto nightclub on March 28 and Hashimi was arrested in April.
Smith's death received extra attention after an image of Mayor Rob Ford with his arm around a man believed to be Smith circulated along with reports that drug dealers were trying to sell an alleged video appearing to show Ford smoking crack cocaine.
Ford has denied the picture indicates he has ties to drug dealers, saying he takes pictures with a lot of people.
He has also said that he does not use crack cocaine and the alleged video does not exist.
Hanad Mohamed, 23, is also facing first-degree murder charges in Smith's death and is set to appear in court July 26 via video link.
