Mayor Rob Ford says that the Internet domain name that was rigged to redirect to a Toronto newspaper's website and then Wikipedia pages on Tuesday has been out of use for some time.

By typing in www.robford.ca web-surfers were greeted with the words "Rob, we're sorry!!" before being redirected to the Toronto Star's website.

Later in the afternoon, the site was redirecting to a Wikipedia page on American outlaw Rob Ford before switching to a fake beauty contest between the mayor, a soap opera actor and the aforementioned outlaw.

The mayor's office released a statement on Tuesday afternoon stating that they are aware that the domain name is being redirected.

"This domain name has not been used by the Mayor for some time," the statement says. "It was previously used as the personal councillor website for then Councillor Rob Ford."

Ford has been publicly feuding with the Toronto Star over a story it published concerning his conduct as football coach on July 13, 2010.

The Star has threatened to file a complaint with the council's integrity commissioner stating it isn't getting press releases from Ford's office.
