Toronto police have opened the city's fifth homicide case of the year after friends found a man dead in his home on Wednesday.

Scott Savoy's body was found in a basement apartment at 594 Danforth Rd., near Warden and St. Clair Avenues, Const. Jeniffer Sidhu said Friday.

Sidhu said friends hadn't heard from the 48-year-old man since Saturday, so they went to his home on Wednesday to check on him.

When they entered the home, they found the man unconscious and not breathing. He was pronounced dead shortly after being found.

Hala Debawi, who lives upstairs with her family, says her son opened the door to the basement apartment.

"My son, he broke the door from inside the house," she told CTV Toronto on Friday. "He opened the door and found him in the kitchen on the floor. He called 911 right away."

Police confirmed that Savoy was a drug dealer. They say Savoy was last seen on Saturday, walking his dog.

"We're especially interested in talking to people who may have seen him last Saturday into Superbowl Sunday," Sgt. Det. Steve Ryan said.
