NAPANEE, Ont. - David Frost's lawyer called into question Wednesday several elements of testimony from the previous day of his sexual exploitation trial.

He suggested that a witness's claims of years of threesomes involving Frost never took place and that the former coach has no "magical" ability to compel people to have sex.

The female witness, now 28, had told court Tuesday that Frost frequently engaged her and her boyfriend in three-way sex starting when they were 16 and Frost was 29. She testified that even when the couple was alone, Frost demanded that they ask his permission before they had sex.

The witness also testified that Frost directed her on separate occasions to have sex with another player and her boyfriend's 14-year-old brother, as well as to take part in a foursome involving the former hockey coach.

Frost, who coached the now-defunct junior A Quinte Hawks in 1996 and 1997, has pleaded not guilty to four counts of sexual exploitation, two of which relate to the woman's boyfriend at the time, who was a Quinte Hawks player.

The two players Frost is alleged to have sexually exploited cannot be named.

The Canadian Press is also not identifying the two women who have testified this week about having sex with players and Frost during the period of the alleged offences, when they were juveniles, though the women are not part of the same publication ban.

The woman on the stand Wednesday dated her boyfriend from late 1996 through 2001, by which time he had played for teams in several cities. She testified the threesomes and sexual control began in 1996 and continued throughout their relationship.

"You were an intelligent adult, with your own mind," defence lawyer Marie Henein said, suggesting the woman made decisions about her sexual activity that she might now regret.

The witness replied that "a 16-year-old is not an adult."

Henein questioned the veracity of the woman's claims that the sexual coercion continued for up to six years.

"Mr. Frost is able to exert this incredible control -- magical," Henein said. "I'm going to suggest to you you're just making it up."

The witness said Frost's control wasn't necessarily verbal. Rather, he would coerce the couple into having sex through implied threats and the way he looked at them or cleared his throat.

"He clears his throat, he looks at you and you engage in sexual activity," Henein put to the witness.

Henein noted several incidences when the witness engaged in threesomes and sexual activity in front of other people while not under the duress of Frost. The lawyer suggested the woman engaged in such behaviour through her own volition.

"Mr. Frost doesn't have to clear his throat or look at you," Henein said.

"I'm going to suggest to you that you did not need and you never needed Mr. Frost to control you."

The lawyer also noted the woman had told police about times she performed oral sex on Frost, but never mentioned a distinguishing feature.
