Friends have identified Mimi Luong as the woman who died after falling six storeys from an apartment balcony in North York, Toronto police said.

Investigators said Luong, 30, fell from the balcony of a building located at 1 De Boers Dr., near Sheppard Avenue and Allen Road, at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.

When she fell, Luong landed on a glass awning that extends from the building over a group of businesses on the ground level. The woman was brought back to her apartment on the sixth floor by her boyfriend, who lives elsewhere, police said.

Luong, a community service worker, also had a young son with her estranged husband. The two men had a violent relationship, CTV News has learned.

A video from May obtained exclusively by CTV shows the men involved in a fist fight in the lobby of the same building from which Luong fell.

The woman was examined by paramedics and rushed to a nearby hospital. On Friday morning, Toronto police confirmed she had succumbed to her injuries.

Neighbours who did not wish to be identified said they heard loud arguing coming from Luong’s condo before she fell.

Police said they are still investigating the cause of the fall
