One of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's former advisers is releasing a "tell-all" book about his time in the mayor's office before he was fired last year.

"Mayor Rob Ford: Behind the Scenes, My Attempt to Help the Belligerent Mayor" was written by Ford's former chief of staff Mark Towhey, and Canadian freelance journalist Johanna Schneller.

According to Skyhorse Publishing, the book recounts events surrounding the mayor's drug use from February to May 2013.

During that time, the mayor made headlines when he was asked to leave a gala where he was accused of inappropriately touching former mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson.

The existence of the so-called "crack tape" was reported in the same period, and the mayor was let go from his position as high school football coach.

"Through it all, Ford's former chief of staff, Mark Towhey, stood by his side. Towhey was part of Ford's inner circle," according to a description of the book on the Skyhorse website.

The publisher also says the book gives an inside account of a confidential conversation between Ford and Towhey in May, 2013.

"Thus far, the public only knows two words from that conversation; Towhey told Ford to 'get help.' They also know what happened next, Towhey was fired."

The publisher calls the book a "must-read" for all Torontonians voting in the mayoral election, and for Ford fans "all over the world."

The site says that Towhey is not looking for revenge with the book, it's just an up-close look at the mayor and what goes on in City Hall.

The book is expected to be released less than a week before the municipal election, on Oct. 21
