Outgoing Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has cancelled his plans to attend the city's Remembrance Day ceremony on Tuesday, due to his ongoing battle with a rare form of cancer.
Ford, who was diagnosed with liposarcoma in September, will not be among the local politicians attending Tuesday's Remembrance Day ceremony at Toronto's Old City Hall cenotaph.
His brother, Doug Ford, said the mayor is recovering at home after recently completing his third round of chemotherapy.
"Everyone there would want Rob to rest," Doug Ford said.
In an email statement on Monday, Ford's chief of staff Dan Jacobs said that a councillor will be speaking on Ford’s behalf.
"The ceremony is very important to him," Jacobs said.
Last month, Ford said that the tumour in his abdomen was not shrinking after two rounds of chemotherapy. He was also taking a heavy dose of antibiotics at the time to treat pneumonia.
