ORILLIA, Ont. - Two men are in hospital after a firearm was discharged at a Highway 11 sporting goods store north of Orillia.

Provincial police Const. Peter Leon says a 26-year-old man was sent by air ambulance to St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Leon says a 66-year-old man was sent to Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Orillia with minor injuries.

The incident happened at 10 a.m. when a loaded firearm was brought into the store and placed on a counter and then discharged.

Leon says the store has a firing range and gun repair facilities but it's not known why the gun was brought into the store.

Leon says investigators believe both of the injured men were associated with the firearm and not store employees.
