A Brampton man has been arrested in connection with the death of his 21-month-old daughter.
Police were called to a home on Pappain Crescent on Monday night, at approximately 11:25 p.m. When they arrived, they found the toddler without vital signs.
The girl was rushed to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after.
"She was worked on by paramedics and taken to a local hospital where they continued to attempt to revive her," Const. Fiona Thivierge said Tuesday evening. "The attempts were unsuccessful and very tragically, the little girl passed away."
An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday.
The girl's father, 42-year-old Frank Brian O'Dea, was arrested Tuesday.
Peel Regional Police said in a statement that O'Dea has been charged with criminal negligence causing death.
Thivierge said additional charges are possible depending on the outcome of the autopsy.
"(The charges) may stay exactly as they are or they could increase or there could be another charge added to it," she said.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with more information is asked to contact police at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
