TORONTO - The Ontario Federation of Agriculture warns thousands of jobs are at risk because farmers are facing another income crisis.

OFA president Geri Kamenz says the high flying loonie and soaring oil prices are a real problem for farmers, especially beef producers who export most of their product.

Kamenz told farmers at the OFA's convention in Toronto that the farm income crisis will remain a problem but expects the federal and provincial governments to offer assistance.

He says agriculture is the second biggest sector in the Ontario economy and governments "need to make those investments.''

Kamenz says if farmers are forced out of business thousands of other spinoff jobs will also disappear.

He says Ontario's 3,000 hog producers help employ about 25,000 people and generate $3.5 billion a year.
