A Mississauga family has been temporarily displaced from their home after a rental car crashed into their garage in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Peel Regional Police said a rental vehicle with Ontario licence plates crashed into the home at 5162 Heritage Hills Blvd., near the Assiniboine Trail at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The car burst into flames and also struck a hydro box across the street, according to police.

Neighbours reported hearing a loud noise from the crash and helped the family living in the house, including a father, mother and two young kids, escape from the fire.

The crash caused severe damage to the garage and damaged two vehicles inside. Minor damage was also reported to the rest of the house.

An inspection of the damage is needed before the family will be allowed to return to their home.

Two males fled from the rental vehicle after the crash, but the vehicle has not been reported as stolen.

Anyone with more information is asked to call Peel Regional Police at 905-453-3311.
