Halton Regional Police have arrested and charged an Etobicoke man for the alleged sexual assault of a minor that he befriended on social media.

Investigators say the suspect used social media to contact the 13-year-old female victim and then drove to Halton Region to pick her up on the evening of the alleged sexual assault.

The pair had never met in person before the alleged assault took place, officers say.

A suspect, identified as 35-year-old Masoud Abdulla, was arrested Monday and charged with four offences, including sexual assault and sexual interference.

Investigators believe there may be other victims who have not yet come forward.

Police say Abdulla used 'tsmith9423' as his handle on social media.

Police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
