Durham police have arrested a suspect in connection with the gruesome double murder of two Ontario men last year.
A Markham man faces a slew of charges including first-degree murder and kidnapping.
Investigators say they expect to make more arrests in the case.
The arrests come a month after Durham police told the media they believed that Harjinder Singh Sandhu and Puneet Singh Chhina were killed in Toronto and not Pickering where their bodies were found.
The men's bodies were discovered in the trunk of a vehicle parked near Rosebank Road in Pickering on May 5, 2009.
Investigators described it as a slaying that had the markings of an organized crime hit.
In December 2009 investigators said they believed the men travelled from Brampton to meet a person, or a group of people, in the Kennedy and Sheppard area on May 4.
After the men were killed, their remains were taken in their vehicle to Pickering while a second vehicle followed.
Police said a cellphone belonging to one of the victims was left in the second vehicle. Investigators were somehow able to track that second car's route from Pickering, north to Whitchurch-Stoufville, then back south to North York.
DNA evidence was also recovered, they said. At the December news conference, police said they believe the DNA belonged to one of the suspects.
Sandhu, a 28-year-old Brampton resident, is the father of two small children. He was facing drug charges at the time of his murder.
Chhina, a 26-year-old Nepean resident, had never been in trouble with police, according to authorities.
John Le, 38, was arrested Thursday without incident. The suspect is charged with two counts each of:
- First-degree murder
- Kidnapping
- Forcible confinement
- Using a firearm in commission of an indictable offence
