Toronto police said a female cyclist has been transported to a trauma centre after being struck by a minivan in Scarborough.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Middlefield Road and McNicoll Avenue around 8:30 p.m. for reports of a personal injury collision.

The woman, who is believed to be in her 40s, was transported to a trauma centre in serious but non-life-threatening condition, paramedics said.

Investigators said the driver involved in the collision remained at the scene.

Sgt. Greg Feagan told CP24 at the scene that the investigation into the collision is ongoing, but the rainy weather could have been a factor.

“I would imagine with the rain and it being dark, it would have some effect on the accident occurring,” he said.

Roads have been blocked off to accommodate an investigation.

Officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have security footage of the area to contact traffic services.
