A 22-year-old man was gunned down in Toronto's Corktown neighbourhood early Saturday morning.
The victim was found in the parking lot of a gas station near Richmond Street and Parliament Street shortly after 2 a.m., however police say subsequent investigation has led them to believe that the shooting actually occurred near Queen Street and Parliament Street, where a number of shell casings were found.
Police initially said that as many as four shots were fired.
“There was a significant amount of blood at the scene and as a result of that officers responding were able to track the movements of the individual back towards Queen Street,” Det. Sgt. Mike Patterson told CP24 Saturday morning.
Patterson told CP24 that police have taken statements from several witnesses but have not yet been able to get a description of a suspect or suspects in the case.
Because the shooting occurred around last call at several area bars, Patterson said he is hopeful that somebody will come forward with information that will help police identify a suspect.
“It is a big puzzle we have to put together,” he said.
Parliament Street has been closed from Richmond Street to Queen Street and Queen Street has been closed between Parliament Street and Power Street due to the police investigation.
