COBOURG, Ont. -- A Cobourg, Ont., police officer is facing 19 counts of discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act.

Cobourg police say Const. Amy Matthijsse was charged following a lengthy investigation, conducted by an independent external law firm, that was reviewed by Durham regional police.

Matthijsse has been with the force for 12 years.

Police say she is accused of wilfully or negligently making a false complaint or statement against any member of a police force.

Police did not provide details of the allegations.

Matthijsse's first appearance on the charges was Friday and her next appearance is scheduled for Sept. 7.
