COBOURG, Ont. - CN Rail says work is expected to continue Tuesday to remove 25 freight cars that derailed Sunday, about an hour east of Toronto.
But full service on the major line is not expected to resume until Wednesday.
Via Rail customers travelling on the Toronto-Montreal and Toronto-Ottawa lines are being bused to their destinations.
But beginning Tuesday morning, Via will resume partial train service between Montreal-Kingston and Ottawa-Kingston.
The company says passengers travelling to and from points west of Kingston, such as Toronto, will transfer to a bus at Kingston.
The company says it will also be accepting some new bookings for train travel in the region.
Meanwhile, the evacuation zone at the scene between Cobourg and Port Hope has been reduced to a few residences and businesses.
More than a dozen homes were evacuated Sunday near the derailment after fuel spilled from a tanker.
