Scratch Tom Clements from the list of perspective candidates for the Toronto Argonauts head coaching position.

Clements, currently the quarterbacks coach for the NFL's Green Bay Packers, has told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that while he spoke to the Argos about their head-coaching position, he has no interest in returning to Canada.

"I'm happy in the NFL," Clements told the newspaper.

The Argos reportedly contacted Clements about a month ago.

Toronto promoted defensive co-ordinator Rich Stubler to head coach prior to the '08 season, but fired him in September after compiling a 4-6 record. The Argos brought Don Matthews, the CFL's winningest head coach, out of retirement to replace Stubler but he retired a second time at season's end after posting an 0-8 record with the Argos.

Clements, 55, played for four teams -- Ottawa, Hamilton, Winnipeg and Saskatchewan -- during a brilliant 12-year CFL career. The former Notre Dame star was the league's top rookie in '75 with the Rough Riders and the following year threw the game-winning touchdown pass to tight end Tony Gabriel in the Grey Cup against Saskatchewan.

Clements finished his CFL career in '87 with Winnipeg, compiling over 39,000 yards passing, a 60.4 per cent completion average and 252 TDs. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1994.

In 1992, he was hired as quarterbacks coach at his alma mater and remained there until '95. He took his first NFL coaching job in '97 as the New Orleans Saints quarterbacks coach. He took a similar post in 2000 with Kansas City and between 2001 and 2003 with Pittsburgh.

Clements served as the Buffalo Bills offensive co-ordinator in 2004-'05 before being released. He joined the Packers coaching staff Jan. 28, 2006.

Elsewhere in the CFL, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats could soon be looking for a new defensive co-ordinator.

Denny Creehan, who held that post with the CFL club last year, visited Concord University in Athens, W.Va., on Friday, becoming the third person this week to inquire about the school's football coaching vacancy.

Hamilton finished a league-worst 3-15 record this past season, Creehan's first in Hamilton. He had spent the previous three years with Calgary.

The Concord football program posted an 0-11 record this season, and has won just once in its last 27 games.

The team last posted a winning record in '98 when it finished with a 6-5 mark.
