A new Forum Research poll suggests Olivia Chow's foothold in Toronto’s mayoral race is falling.
The former NDP MP -- who was in a virtual tie with John Tory and Rob Ford in a July 21 Forum poll and placed second in a recent Nanos survey -- fell to third place behind her two main rivals, according to the latest survey.
The latest Forum poll was conducted by telephone between August 5 – 6.
In the latest poll, 35 per cent of respondents said they would vote for Tory if an election were to be held today.
Incumbent Ford came in second with 27 per cent, and Chow followed closely behind with 25 per cent.
David Soknacki and Karen Stintz trailed behind the frontrunners with 5 per cent and 4 per cent respectively.
The poll, which surveyed 1,268 Toronto voters, also found that 77 per cent of respondent said they would cast their ballot based on whether or not a mayoral candidate shares their political philosophy, while 60 per cent said they would vote for a candidate according to their transit plan.
"It seems a lot more voters are finding John Tory shares their views, or else they think he has a heck of transit plan, because there is significant shift in support in his favour," Forum Research president Lorne Bozinoff said in a statement.
In the July 21 Forum poll, Chow lead the pack with 29 per cent support, followed by Tory (28%) and Ford (27%). Stintz and Soknacki were tied with 5 per cent each.
The latest Forum poll is accurate within plus or minus three percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
