TORONTO - GO Transit buses will soon be able to zip past stalled traffic on part of the Don Valley Parkway.

Toronto city officials and GO Transit say GO vehicles will be allowed to use shoulder lanes on a segment of the Don Valley Parkway when regular traffic is moving slowly.

Officials say the program will help to improve travel times for commuters who choose public transit.

GO Transit buses will be able to travel in the shoulder lanes between Lawrence Avenue and just north of York Mills Road in both directions beginning on Sept. 7.

When traffic slows to speeds lower than 60 km/h, the buses will be allowed to use the lanes to bypass congestion.

By providing space in the shoulder lanes for GO buses to bypass congestion, the existing lanes of the DVP are not reduced for vehicles and the GO buses do not add to the existing congestion.
