Brampton shooting victim dies, murder charge coming
Police will be seeking to upgrade charges against an accused after a person shot in Brampton on the weekend died of his injuries.
Vachon Tatchell, 21, of Brampton, was shot shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday following a confrontation with his assailant and was transferred to a Toronto trauma centre. Homicide detectives indicated on Monday that they didn't expect him to survive.
"Despite the best efforts of the hospital staff, the victim has succumbed to his injuries," Peel Regional Police said Wednesday in a news release.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.
Police arrested Kevin Phillips, 22, of Brampton on Monday. They laid a charge of aggravated assault against him.
"He will be making a court appearance on February 3, 2010, where his charge will be upgraded to second-degree murder," they said.
