The body of a man discovered in the back of an SUV in Toronto's west-end Wednesday morning showed no visible signs of trauma, police said.

The body was found in a grey Nissan Pathfinder on Dewson Street near Rusholme Road, not far from the intersection of Dufferin and College streets.

A passerby discovered the body inside the parked vehicle and contacted police at about 8 a.m.

Police searched the vehicle for evidence and went door-to-door asking neighbours for information.

"He said he found a body in a car, in my neighbourhood, so that's horrible," one local resident told CTV Toronto.

Residents say that many of them park on the street so neighbour's vehicles are familiar to them.

"No one knows who's vehicle it is," another resident said.

Few details are currently available but police say the death is suspicious and are investigating it as a potential homicide.

However, homicide detectives didn't attend the scene on Wednesday.

Hours after the body was discovered, a police tow truck removed the vehicle from the scene.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death.
