A crucial game for the Toronto Blue Jays will not be broadcast at City Hall due to an annual fundraising event.
The Jays take on the Kansas City Royals starting at 4:07 p.m. on Wednesday, a game that the team must win to stay in the Major League Baseball playoffs. The afternoon game is the fifth in a best-of-seven series, and the Jays have lost three games so far.
If the team loses, they will be eliminated from the playoffs. If they win, they'll go on to Game 6 in Kansas City, Mo.
All Jays playoff games have been broadcast on a giant screen in Nathan Phillips Square since the team made the playoffs, earning the square the nickname "#BirdsNest" on social media.
However, fans will have to watch Wednesday's game elsewhere.
In a statement Tuesday, the City of Toronto said the square is already booked for an annual cancer fundraising event.
Should the Jays win on Wednesday, the sixth and seventh games will be broadcast in the square as usual, the city said.
The Jays are scheduled to play the Royals on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.
"To give the audience a better viewing experience, the size of the screen has been increased to allow for broadcasting in full HD quality," the city's statement said.
"To create a festive atmosphere, Nathan Phillips Square is decked out with Toronto Blue Jays banners and the 3DTORONTO sign continues to be illuminated blue."
Food trucks are also available on site on game days.
