Toronto police are investigating a series of overnight car fires, with arson as the suspected cause.

Five vehicles were burned between midnight and 3 a.m. near Church Street and the Esplanade. While fire crews responded to the first vehicle fire in an outdoor parking lot, more vehicles caught fire in an underground parking lot nearby.

Further north, two vehicles went up in flames near Bloor Street West and Avenue Road early Monday morning.

Police said that the fires are likely related, adding that suspects were seen fleeing in a minivan shortly after the fires started.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's office was called in to investigate.

No one was injured, and police have not yet provided an estimate of the cost of damage.
