TORONTO - One of Italy's most wanted men will remain in a Toronto jail awaiting a hearing to determine if he can stay in Canada.

Alleged Mafia leader Giuseppe Coluccio appeared before the Immigration and Refuge Board today to determine whether he should be kept in custody.

The 41-year old was arrested last Thursday and is being held at the Toronto West jail.

Board member William Willoughby says Coluccio poses a danger to the public and warns he would likely not appear for his admissibility hearing if released.

Italian authorities have been after Coluccio since 2005.

It's alleged he masterminded a drug trafficking operation as the head of the Calabrian Mafia.

Police say he's been living illegally in Canada for several years.
