Pity the poor reindeer who carry Santa’s sleigh: Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of southern Ontario that warns of rain, thunderstorms and high winds on Christmas Eve.
A storm system from the southern U.S. is expected to roll in Tuesday night, bringing rain, fog and higher-than-normal temperatures to much of southern Ontario, including Toronto and Ottawa.
Then, on Christmas Eve, rain is expected and thunderstorms are possible during the day. In the evening, the rain is expected to dissipate, but there could be winds of 70 km/h, with gusts up to 90 km/h, in some exposed areas near the Great Lakes.
“On Christmas Day, the strong winds will persist, but are expected to gradually abate through the latter part of the day, as the weather system moves off to the northeast,” says Environment Canada.
The storm is also expected to bring unusually high temperatures on Christmas Eve, possibly surpassing 10 degrees.
The special weather statement was issued for Windsor, London, Hamilton, Toronto, Parry Sound, Ottawa and many areas in between.
