A long line of tow trucks rolled onto Toronto-area roads Wednesday morning, in a slow-moving, traffic-snarling convoy bound for Queen's Park.

As many as 400 Ontario tow trucks participatedin the rolling protest aimed at forcing changes to what they see as unfair insurance rates and working conditions for independent operators.

The convoy of large trucks, many painted with flame decals and featuring business names and phone numbers posted along the side of the cabs, launched their rolling protest from three locations at about 9 a.m.

One group began its trip from Keele Street and Wilson Avenue, while others began on Woodbine Avenue north of Steeles Avenue and Brock Road north of Highway 401.

The convoy moved at a very slow speed down the Don Valley Parkway and into downtown Toronto, where they gathered at Queen's Park and circled the Ontario legislature.

The protest comes after the Ontario Provincial Police decided to contract out the removal of cars seized in driving infractions.

The OPP says the decision was made in order to protect from inflated towing rates.
