A tentative deal has been reached between Stock Transportation and the union representing about 600 Toronto school bus drivers, the union's president announced late Tuesday night.
CAW Local 4268 president Debra Montgomery announced that a deal had been reached shortly before 11 p.m.
“Thank you for your patience,” Montgomery said to parents following announcement of the deal Tuesday night. “We just appreciate everybody’s patience.”
A ratification vote will take place “as soon as we can get the paperwork together,” Montgomery added.
The deal averts a strike which would have affected thousands of students from the Toronto District School Board and Toronto Catholic District School Board.
The drivers, who voted 93 per cent in favour of a strike, operate routes in north and east Toronto for the city’s public, Catholic and French school boards.
They would have been in a legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. Wednesday had a deal not been reached.
