Police are investigating after a fire was deliberately set at a park in Toronto’s east end on Tuesday evening.

Toronto Fire said they received a call before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and arrived at the park, located at the Ontario and Coatsworth streets area. They said there was an estimated $10,000 in damages.

Police were called at the time, but no reports were filed.

On Wednesday, police said they would be looking into the incident. Toronto Fire said they suspect arson, but could not confirm what was used to set the fire.

No one suffered injuries.

A husband and wife were on the scene with their child before the fire started. They told CP24 on Wednesday that they returned home for dinner after playing at the park.

“About 40 minutes after we headed in for dinner, my husband heard the fire truck pull up,” one witness said.

Toronto Fire put out the blaze, but the family said, “In the meantime, we’ve lost our park.”

“We hope that it can get fixed. I understand there’s budgets involved. My fear is that it won’t be up and running this summer.”
