Three people were rushed to hospital after a fire tore through a Markham, Ont., home early Friday morning.

Fire crews rushed to a large, two-storey home on Eastvale Drive, near Steeles Avenue and Markham Road, after it caught fire shortly after 6 a.m.

York Regional Police say everyone managed to escape the building before it was consumed by flames.

Police say 12 people and one dog were in the house at the time of the fire; all occupants have been evacuated and are accounted for.

Two adults and one young child were taken to hospital after suffering minor burns and smoke inhalation.

It is not clear what caused the blaze.
