A Toronto Transit Commission employee has been charged after a teenage girl was allegedly sexually assaulted while on a bus earlier this week.

Police say the west-end bus left Kipling Station on Tuesday and was carrying the 16-year-old girl along with other passengers. At some point, police say the 50-year-old driver stopped the bus in a commercial area when the teen was the only passenger remaining. It's alleged the girl was allowed to sit in the driver's seat before she was sexually assaulted.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, the transit agency says the driver isn"t "performing any TTC duties at this time." The TTC says it is co-operating with police in their investigation.

"Nothing is more important to the TTC than the safety and security of the customers in its care, particularly its most vulnerable," the transit agency said.

Cleveland Phillips has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation. He was scheduled to make a court appearance Friday.

Police believe there may be other victims, and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 416-808-2000, or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477)
