TORONTO - The union representing elementary school teachers has slammed the board association for bargaining in public after the board association said talks have stalled on two issues.
The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario calls the move by the Ontario Public School Boards' Association to publicly discuss talks being stalled on sick leave and benefits a media stunt.
The OPSBA says talks with the union representing elementary school teachers have otherwise progressed on a majority of issues.
ETFO president Sam Hammond says the board association has been dismissive and disrespectful and the union will have to re-evaluate how it proceeds with negotiations.
The OPSBA says 30 days of talks with the provincial government and teachers have resolved outstanding matters such as class size, salary increases and preparation time.
The board association says they have proposed adjustments to maintain the number of sick days provided annually, an offer it says is similar to the ones accepted by other teacher unions, and a similar benefit package it gave other unions.
