Two major road closures will make getting around downtown more difficult for the rest of the month.
The intersection of Spadina Avenue and College Street is closed in all four directions for the next three weeks.
The closure, which lasts until April 27, will allow city crews to rip up and replace aging TTC streetcar tracks in the area.
During the closure, all eastbound traffic on College will be detoured to Bathurst Street. All westbound traffic will be detoured along University Avenue, McCaul Street, St. George Street or Beverley Street.
All northbound traffic on Spadina approaching College will have to bypass the intersection on Dundas or Nassau Streets. Southbound traffic will detour along Bloor, Sussex or Harbord Streets.
Alternative eastbound and westbound routes include Bloor and Dundas Streets, while those travelling north or south are encouraged to take Bathurst or University instead of Spadina. Those roads will not have any planned lane closures during rush hours, the City of Toronto said in a statement.
The intersection remains open to pedestrians, and safety barricades will provide a barrier between pedestrian walkways and construction. Cyclists are asked to dismount and walk through the intersection.
The closure will also affect TTC routes. The 306 and 506 Carlton streetcars will divert from College along Ossington Avenue, Dundas Street West and Bay Street in both directions.
The 510 Spadina streetcars are being replaced by buses on Spadina from Spadina Station to Queens Quay. Buses will divert using Harbord, Bathurst and Dundas Streets.
Partial closure on Sherbourne Street
A section of Lower Sherbourne Street is closed until mid-June as construction crews make modifications to the Gardiner Expressway ramp.
Northbound lanes of Sherbourne will be closed between Lake Shore Boulevard and Front Street until June 15. Traffic will be diverted to Parliament Street and Lower Jarvis Street during the construction period. One lane of southbound traffic will be maintained during the construction.
Pedestrian access will be maintained on one side of the road at all times, and access to businesses and residents will be maintained.
