BRAMPTON, Ont. -- Ontario's police watchdog is investigating after a 33-year-old man was hit by a police cruiser in Brampton, northwest of Toronto.

The Special Investigations Unit says the man -- a pedestrian -- was struck by a cruiser driven by a Peel Regional Police officer at about 8 a.m. Friday (at the intersection of Resolution Drive and Steeles Avenue).

The man suffered a leg injury and was taken to Brampton Civic Hospital for treatment.

The SIU says it has assigned four investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist to probe the circumstances of the incident.

It's also asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact SIU investigators.

The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
