Expect to see some major road closures in Toronto this weekend as the city will be filled with residents and tourists gathering for Pride and Canada Day festivities.

The closure of several downtown routes will likely make it difficult to get around by car, and some TTC routes will be on diversion. Plan your travel accordingly.

Pride road closures

On Saturday, the Dyke March will close various roads between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The route starts at Church and Hayden Streets, continues north to Bloor Street East, west to Yonge Street, south to Carlton Street and east to finish at Sherbourne Street. The march itself is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Pride and Remembrance Run will close Wellesley Street between Jarvis Street and Queen’s Park Circle on Saturday, June 30 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

The Church Street Pride Festival will take over the Church Wellesley Village all weekend, with closures from Carlton Street to Hayden Street starting Friday, June 29 at 6 p.m. to Monday, July 2 at 6 a.m.

Several downtown streets will be closed Sunday for the Pride Parade, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The route extends from Church Street and Bloor Street East, west to Yonge Street, south to Gerrard Street, and east back to Church Street.

Canada Day road closures

Queen’s Park Circle from College Street to Hoskin Avenue will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 1 for Canada Day Celebrations.

Residents in Scarborough will see some road closures for Canada Day celebrations. Brimley Road will be closed from Progress Avenue to Ellesmere Road between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., and from Ellesmere Road to Lawrence Avenue from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Ellesmere Road will also be closed from Midland Avenue to McCowan Road for about an hour from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Transit service disruptions

For those looking to take public transit, the College/Carlton streetcar route is the only east/west surface route available north of Gerrard Street this weekend.

The TTC will be operating on regular Sunday service on July 1 and Holiday service on July 2.
