Customers were without power in Markham for hours amid scorching temperatures that could reach 32 C.

The energy company Power Stream Inc. said 1,052 customers were first affected by the outage at around 8:05 a.m.

Crews were then able to restore power to most customers, however Power Stream said that 253 were still in the dark as of 10:30 a.m.

The power outage comes amid a heat warning for Markham.

“The mid-summer heat episode will continue today with temperatures once again soaring at least into the low thirties this afternoon,” Environment Canada said in a statement.

The company announced all power had been restored to the remaining customers around 1:40 p.m.
