Police say they will canvass residents in Toronto’s Lawrence Heights neighbourhood following a recent spike in gun crime in the area.

In a statement issued Saturday, police said officers will go door-to-door, providing residents with tips and information about how to share any information they might have regarding crime in the area.

The canvass will take place between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Investigators will be stationed at the intersection of Bagot Court and Varna Drive.

Since late December, two shootings have occurred near the community housing complex on Bagot Court, located near Highway 401 and Allen Road. Both resulted in non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are also investigating after a man died as the result of a shooting on nearby Flemington Road on Tuesday.

As of Jan. 25, the total number of shootings in Toronto is up 100 per cent compared to the same time in 2015. The number of shootings involving injury or death is up nearly 70 per cent, from 13 to 22.
