Police are investigating the "suspicious" death of a man after he was found behind a plaza in Mississauga Monday afternoon.

The unidentified male victim was found in the Amico and Matheson Boulevards area, a Peel Regional Police spokesperson said in a tweet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paramedics received a call about the incident at approximately 1:45 p.m. They say it's unclear if the man's death was weather-related or the result of trauma to the head. A coroner has been called into the investigation.

"(His body) is in a frozen state. The coroner has ways of determining … how long he’s been out there," Const. Fiona Thivierge told reporters at the scene.

She says police are hoping to speak with people who may have witnessed any suspicious activity behind the plaza over the past few days. Investigators also plan to review security surveillance footage from nearby businesses. The plaza is home to Sugar Daddy’s Nightclub, Swiss Chalet and a number of other shops.

Police say the male victim appears to be in his 20s. His next-of-kin has not yet been notified about his death.
