An Oshawa man was charged with human trafficking-related offences after a woman says she was assaulted and forced to work as a prostitute.

Durham police say they began investigating after a woman came forward to police claiming she has been forced to work as a prostitute and turn all her money over to the accused. 

The victim says she was assaulted and threatened multiple times this year. 

Peter Payne, 30, of Oshawa, is facing 11 charges including trafficking in persons, material benefit from trafficking in persons and four counts of assault. 

Police are continuing to investigate to ensure there are no other victims.
