TORONTO -- The City of Toronto has developed a guide to arts, culture and history in south Scarborough, with sites grouped into self-guided tours.

Outdoor murals, a waterfront trail, an 1875 parsonage and a 1913 seminary are among the varied attractions in the sprawling east-end region.

Distinctive places include the faux Greek Theatre, built by architect Ronald Thom in Guild Gardens from the marble archways and Corinthian columns of a demolished downtown bank.

There's also Golden Mile Plaza, Canada's largest shopping centre when it was constructed in 1954.

Three "cultural loops" are listed in the 80-page guide, which also highlights parklands and small businesses, including eateries.
