A Ministry of Labour inspector faces new extortion charges following a months-long investigation by Toronto police.

Joseph Ah-Hone, 55, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with breach of trust and extortion. He was also charged with accepting a benefit from a person having dealings with the government, police said in a statement on Friday.

The charges were laid when new victims came forward as police investigated a previous incident.

Ah-Hone was arrested in October 2014 and charged with extortion-related offences from a different incident that occurred in June.

In June, a victim reported that an inspector conducted a safety audit of a business, and found a number of items that were not in compliance with safety standards.

The victim said the inspector left them to fix the problems, then returned and requested money from the business owner.

On Friday, police said they believe there may be more victims, some of whom are reluctant to come forward due to various circumstances. Police ask anyone with more information to contact them at 416-808-4200 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).

In the statement, the Ontario Ministry of Labour reminded the public that inspectors are public servants, and are forbidden to accept money or commissions for any service rendered.
