A young man is in hospital after he was shot in the stomach near a transit station in the city’s east end Friday afternoon.

Emergency Medical Services said the 19-year-old man was shot near Kennedy Road and Lawrence Avenue, just after 1 p.m.

The victim was found near GO train tracks, close to the Lawrence East RT station.

The man has a gunshot wound in his abdomen. His injuries are not considered life threatening, said Toronto police Const. Tony Vella.

Const. Wendy Drummond said the suspect is described as a white male, wearing black clothing.

Toronto police dog units and members of the guns and gangs taskforce both responded to the scene of the shooting.

The GO train tracks that service Stouffville commuter trains were closed briefly due to the incident.

GO Transit officials said Stouffville trains would depart Union Station as scheduled, but warned that there could be slight delays as trains slowed through the area where police were conducting their investigation.

TTC services were not affected.
