A man has succumbed to his injuries after being severely burned in an explosion in a Toronto apartment on Tuesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to an apartment building at 35 St. Dennis Dr., near Eglinton Avenue and the Don Valley Parkway shortly before 8 p.m.

Neighbours reported hearing a loud blast from a sixth-floor unit.

Paramedics rushed the unidentified man to hospital with severe burns, but the man died of his injuries.

Upon investigation, police found that the man had been doing renovations in the apartment, and some type of chemical exploded.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has taken over the investigation.
