A 59-year-old man is dead and another has been rushed to trauma centre following a two-vehicle crash in Mississauga this morning.

Police in Peel Region say a car and a pickup truck collided near Hurontario Street and Ambassador Drive shortly before 7 a.m.

They say one of two people in the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There were two occupants in the smaller vehicle. The passenger, who is a 59-year-old man, was found without vital signs and pronounced deceased at the scene," Peel Regional Police Const. Mark Fischer told CTV News Toronto.

"The driver of the vehicle, who is a 51-year-old male, received serious injuries and was taken to a trauma centre in Toronto." Police say he had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The driver of the truck was also taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

“The collision appears to be the result of a turn between two vehicles. Our major collision bureau is on scene investigating the incident," Fischer said. "We’re asking if there are any witnesses to this incident or if anyone has dash cam video coverage of the incident happening to contact Peel Regional Police.”

Hurontario Street was closed between Superior Boulevard and Courtneypark Drive East for several hours. All roads reopened shortly before 1:30 p.m.
