A 54-year-old man is facing charges after a woman reported that she was sexually assaulted by a parishioner she befriended at a Scarborough church.

The woman told police that she became friends with a man who attended her church, located near Pharmacy Avenue and St. Clair Avenue East, in 2012.

Police allege that sometime between June 1, 2012 and Aug. 30, 2012, the 55-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a man at her home.

The woman told police that she was sexually assaulted again between Sept. 1, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2012.

On Thursday, Toronto police arrested and charged a suspect identified as Toronto-resident Bisnauth Singh with two counts of sexual assault.

Singh was expected to make an appearance in court on Dec. 2.

Anyone with information is being asked to call police at 416-808-4100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
