A man has been rushed to hospital after receiving an electric shock while working downtown Saturday morning.

The man, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, was working outside a Hydro One building at 241 Wellington St. W. when he was shocked and collapsed.

At the time of the incident, the worker was 4.5 metres above ground in a suspended harness. A technical rescue team was called to perform a rope rescue.

Toronto Fire Acting District Chief Colin Giffin said the man was conscious and responding to paramedics, but suffered superficial burns to his skin. He was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The Ministry of Labour has been called in to investigate.
